This cased image, circa 1860, reproduces an engraving of art connoisseurs in London's Crystal Palace admiring a cast of "The Greek Slave," an 1844 marble carving by American sculptor Hiram Powers. Americans felt this neoclassical work secured their place on the stage of world art and, as such, it was widely promoted in both the United States and abroad. Very fine condition with intact emulsion and even surfaces.
