Exceedingly rare engraving of "The Inauguration Of Gen. Zachary Taylor", "Drawn on the spot by Wm. Croome", engraved by Brightly & Keyser, Philadelphia 1849, 20 3/4" x 26", edges tears repaired with archival tape on back, light age at right margin, colors bold and bright. Taylor is surrounded by men and women at the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. shortly after taking the Oath of Office from Chief justice of the Supreme Court Roger B. Taney. Below this scene is an image of Taylor in his military uniform, including a brief biography of his life, ending with "Victorious in the presidential campaign, 1848". The piece is also "Dedicated to the Various Rough and Ready Clubs throughout the Union". Rough and Ready clubs were political groups that supported Taylor for President during the campaign of 1848. After extensive research the only other example extant is in the Library of Congress (LC-DIG-pga-00307). We have placed what we consider a conservative estimate on this museum quality piece.
