The receipt is issued to Joseph Arnold, ackowledging his $200 purchase of One share in the Newport and California Expedition. It is signed by Wm. Coggeshall, President and Aaron Dyer, Treasurer. The company wasa formed to purchase and refit the ship, Audley Clark which was launched from Newport February 15, 1849 and arrived San Francisco September 1, 1849 via Cape Horn after 198 days.
