March 21, 1778, Letter from Former Captive in the American Revolution, NY, Choice Very Fine. Autograph Letter Signed and Inscribed, "your affectionate Nephew / Chas. Campbell," on laid, watermarked paper, 3 pages integral, 9.25" x 7.25". Very clean letter, with wax seal remnants on verso. After serving 2 years in confinement, Campbell writes to his uncle that he hadn't received a letter from a single friend on earth, "but a few lines from a brother in Philadelphia." Campbell also writes about his father, and about his prospects for promotion. Campbell was with the 71st Regiment of Highlanders which was captured by the Americans in Boston Harbor in 1776.
