A complete and authentic issue of the Aurora of the Valley, November 25, 1848, 8pp, disbound, VG. From the interior, under the heading “Remarkable Attempt to Escape by a Slave”, we read of another startling report of a slave escaping by being shipped in a box. In part, “... a black man was discovered stored away among the boxes and bales. He proved to be a slave named Moses, the property of Miss Mary Brown ... The ship was immediately put back to Newcastle (Delaware) where the fugitive was lodged in prison. ... The runaway slave, incredible as it seems, was tightly confined in this box, the dimensions of which were two feet in depth, two feet four inches in width, and three feet five inches in length. ... He was nearly dead though when taken out. ...”
