Manuscript Document Signed “R. Adams” 1pp. 5”x3-3/4”, and reads “Rec’d Jany 14th 1858 of Jas. P. Adams fifteen dollars on account of Hire of my hand on State-House for November & December 1857.” Fine condition. Most of the documents pertaining to the capital building were burned during theCivil War, making these documents rare and highly desirable. The South Carolina state capitol building took 56 years to complete, from 1854 to 1907. The Civil War, along with corruption, lack of funds, and political bickering, interrupted the construction on several occasions.
