Newspaper, a complete and authentic issue of the New York Times, February 10, 1863, 8pp., disbound, VG. From page 2, in stacked column headlines, “THE WAR IN FLORIDA., Negro Troops Against the Rebels, The First South Carolina Volunteers in the Field, Salt Works Destroyed, Capt. Clifton, of the John Adams, Killed by Guerrillas,Official Report of Col. T.W. Higginson. No officer in this regiment now doubts that the key to the successful prosecution of this war lies in the unlimited employment of black troops. ... It would have been madness to attempt with the bravest white troops what I have successfully accomplished with black ones. ...”
