Congressional imprint “Message from the President of the United States, Relating to The trial of Albert M.D.C. Lusk by a military commission.” 22pp. octavo, December 1867, which records testimony in the murder trial of Lusk which reads in part: “…I saw the freedman standing at the water cooler on the boiler deck, taking a drink of water. The prisoner came down off the roof and had a revolver in his hand, and said, ‘For fifty dollars I would kill every damn negro in Floyd.’ He then said to the colored boy at the water cooler, ‘What are you doing here, you cream-colored son of a bitch?’…and told the boy to start; the boy then started and as he started to go the prisoner fired and the boy fell dead on the spot…” More. Fine.
