1787 Grand Jury Indictment of "negro Stephen" for Murdering His Wife. Manuscript Document, 4.75" x 7.25", headed "August Court 1787": "We the Grand Jury for Frederick County [Maryland] do present negro Stephen for willfully murdering his wife negro Mary contrary to a Law of the State." Signed by the foreman of the jury, John McPherson. The witness are listed at lower left, including "Negroes Valchael, Ned & Cate." Toned and lightly soiled; slightly trimmed at right edge.
