Confederate officer's war date letter written by Major Philip H. Powers, JEB Stuart staff officer, 3pp., 4to, "Camp, December 26th 1863," with stampless cover to Mrs. Powers, Richmond, Virginia, in care of R. W. Powers, reading in part: "…I need hardly wish you a merry holiday. There is no holiday you will say for a poor woman with four children, a body full of ailments and pains, and a husband in the rebel army…There is no news. I did hear of some movement going on by the enemy as if they might advance again but have heard no details. Also heard this morning that our troops in the valley were moving towards Winchester but they are too few to accomplish anything in that direction…" Fine condition.
