c. 1810, Slave Estate Inventory, Very Fine. Manuscript Document Signed, 14.75" x 9.5", doublesided, and archivally silked. Very early slave estate inventory--no place and no date, but circa 1810, providing an accounting for Solomon Langston, deceased, listing the personal property of his estate and the disbursement among the heirs and creditors. Eight slaves are listed including "... one negro woman & child $700, one negro girl $510", totaling over $2,400 in value. Interestingly, also included in the sale was "One Leg Chain" which would suggest that one or more of Langston's slaves was not content with their lot in life. Two corners clipped with only minor loss, otherwise very fine condition.
