Manuscript notebook , anonymous author, approximately 148pp., octavo, bound as a shelf volume in sturdy cloth-covered boards with spine. Applicants' information presented includes the date of application, the applicant's name and relation to the soldier. Military particulars consist of the soldier's name, rank, enlistment data, circumstances of death, if ever a prisoner of war, bounties received and if discharged for disability. It is also noted when an application was sent to the auditor, the witness's name and date pension was paid. The soldiers named were primarily from New Jersey and represented the 4th, 8th, 10th, 34th and 40th infantry regiments. Cavalry units mentioned are the 1st and 2nd New Jersey. Additional named soldiers belonged to the 2nd Baltimore Regiment and the 23rd Wisconsin Volunteers. Prisons noted include the most notorious in the Confederacy. Among these are Andersonville, Danville, Libby and Florence. All of the important Army of the Potomac campaigns also figure into this compendium. A rare primary source document. Minor chipping with somewhat loose covers. Overall very good condition.
