A Union soldier's war-date letter written by Private Frank Ashley, Co. H, 64th Ohio Volunteers, 3pp., 8vo, "Cleveland, Tenn May the 5th /64," reading, in part: "…there is some indications of a move soon the extra baggage is all turned over and all things is in readiness to leave at a moments warning so you need not be surprised to hear from me the next time at dalton if our army proves victorious…I have heard rather bad news from Gen Banks on Red River in Texas…we do not hear of Gen Grant but I think soon we will in tones of thunder. I hope that this campaign will end this war…" Fine condition.
