A Union soldier's war-date letter written by Private Frank Ashley, Co. H, 64th Ohio Volunteers, 4pp., 8vo, "Camp of the 64 OVI Near Atlanta Ga Aug 14 64," reading, in part: "…you well know I liable to be wounded as a great many others but Dear Let am in hopes that I may yet come off clear…Ps The boys lately come off Picket - none hurt there is very seldom any wounded…since I wrote this day…a large fire broke out in Atlanta and our shells are knocking some buildings down…3 trains of cars were heard to come in there we have not the possession of the road but are near enough to shell the depot from either side…" Very good condition.
