A Union soldier's war-date letter written by Private Frank Ashley, Co. H, 64th Ohio Volunteers, 4 pp., 8vo, "Camp of the 64 OVI Near Atlanta GA Sept 13 64," reading, in part: "…we're once more in a pieceful camp undisturbed by rebel bullets and shell we are about 3 miles from town at present…Sherman retreated from Atlanta…we retreated south and came onto the railroad considerable distance South drove the rebs about 10 miles when we came to a halt…" The original postal cover is included, its 3¢ stamp is tied by a Nashville CDS for Sep 19 and a target cancel. Very good condition
