A Union soldier's war-date letter written by Private Frank Ashley, Co. H, 64th Ohio Volunteers, 2 pp., 4to, "Head Quarters 64 OVI, Whiteside Station Tenn, October 12 A D 1864," reading, in part: "…we held our elections yesterday it went off finely had 9 democratic votes polled So you see we go strong for the Union and the old stripes and stars but at present ours are badly used up with bullets…" Very good condition.
