A Union soldier's war-date letter written by Private Frank Ashley, Co. H, 64th Ohio Volunteers, 4pp., 8vo, "Camp of the 64 OVI, Near Alfine GA, October 27th 64," reading, in part: "…are near the Alabama line…the object of us coming here was to head off the rebel Army…there was 200 recruits come to our regt which makes it look about ½ decent…a part of our train came up to us last night from Atlanta it was reported here that a part of our train was captured near that place we had about 20 men there with it…" With original postal cover bearing a Chattanooga CDS for Nov 1. Very good condition.
