A Union soldier's war-date letter written by Private Frank Ashley, Co. H, 64th Ohio Volunteers, 4 pp., 8vo, "Head Quarters, 3rd Brigade, Decatur, Ala, Feb 22 65," reading, in part: "…my furlough came back with the rest disapproved it was done by our Division Genl Elliot - long may he live to enjoy the pleasures of the world and I have an idea he will be found on the left Hand in the next. I could say more but will not the general has a grudge at our division…Fort Sumpter is ours and Charleston is reported evacuated there was a national salute fired of 32 guns…" Very good condition.
