A Union soldier's war-date letter written by Corporal Frank Ashley, Co. H, 64th Ohio Volunteers, 4pp., 8vo, "Quartered on Boat Midway from Memphis to Vixsburg, July 3d 65," reading, in part: "…I think there will be a chance for the Vets to go to mexico but do not think there will be any compulsion in the matter. I think there will be a big bounty offered to induce them to go there but I donot think it is my duty to go I think duty is at home…" Very good condition.
