Congressional imprint “Resoltions Adopted by the People of the Town of Newport, in the State of New Hampshire, without distinction of party, approving the policy of the President in relation to the war.” 1pp. octavo, March, 1862, stating that “The people of the town of Newport, in the county of Sullivan, and State of New Hampshire, without distinction of party, having assembled at their town hall on the 22d day of February, A.D. 1862, in accordance with the proclamation of the President of the United States, for the purpose of reading the farewell address of the father of his country, resolve as follows: 1. That we approve the policy of the President of the United States in conducting the present civil war…that we especially approve his patriotic refusal to make the emancipation of the slaves a part of that policy, believing that such a measure could not fail to prolong the war and aggravate its horrors; and that as long as he shall adhere to the policy herein indicated we pledge to him our constant and cordial support…” Fine.
