The Sunday Morning Chronicle, Washington, April 16, 1865, Vol. V, No. 2, 4pp., folio. This large eight-column paper provides an in-depth look at the assassination, Lincoln's death and the preliminary plans for his funeral. Of special interest is classified advertisement by Ford's Theatre reading, "Notice. In consequence of the great national calamity, this theatre will be closed until further notice." War news is not ignored and indicates that Jefferson Davis, though a homeless fugitive by any standard, vows to continue the struggle. Very good condition.
