Letter seeking damages, written by Robert Kane, one page, quarto, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, December 3, 1864, to George G. Lobdell, Wilmington, Delaware, reading, in part: "Captain James B. McClellan of the brig 'Ida M. Conery' has placed in my hands a for collection a claim against you for damages growing our of the collision between the lighter called the 'Young Mathews' and his vessel. The collision occurred whilst the brig was at anchor…the collision was entirely occasioned by the mismanagement of your vessel. I am not desirous of commencing a suit until I hear from you…" Splits along margins, stains. Overall good condition.
