c. 1850s, Slave Revolt Book With Two Stories In German: " NEGER UND WEISSE." and "DER TREUE WACHTER," By Franz Hoffman, Philadelphia, PA, Very Fine. 6.25" x 4.5" hardbound cardboard covers, with color print on front of a slave uprising in progress, 25 pages, written in German, by a "Pennsylvania Dutch" writer for a series, "Amerikanische Jugendbibliothek" [American Youth Library]. The small volume contains two stories: "Negroes and Whites" and "The Faithful Nightwatchman." Rare book for young people, published by Worwik & Co. Lightly toned pages, wear and soiling to covers and edges. A rare, intriguing find!
