Manuscript Document, being a list questions and answers; 3 pages, 8" x 12 1/2," Brazoria County, Texas, February 9, 1852. Some age-toning, and two sheets bear holes at top margins, the remnants of filing, not affecting text; overall Very Fine. Here the ex-Sheriff of Ford Bend County, H.M. Thompson, appears as witness in a case between Adam Blond, a minor, and a Mr. Calvit, concerning the disputed ownership of a slave, Emily, and her six year-old child. Calvit apparently seized Emily and her child as security for a debt owned him by a member of the Blond family. The Sheriff testifies that he had no idea who owned the slaves, but while he was Sheriff, they were in the possession of Adam BlondÍs father, John. When, as Sheriff, he was obliged to take possession of said slaves, he did so, believing Emily to be worth $700, with an annual value of $110 per year, and apprising the childÍs value at $200.
