Pair of Manuscript Documents, 6pp. folio, Madison County, Kentucky, August 1855, which includes, an estate inventory for Claiborne Fox, a free man of color, listing numerous household items and “One Negro woman (Malinda) $350...” In addition to this document is another estate document for “Clairborne Fox decd (man of color)”, which includes a most interesting and scarce entry reading: “Mark Jarman (a free man of Color) holds a note on Clairborne Fox decd for $350 - money borrowed for the purchase of said Fox’s wife Linda who is Sister of the said Jarman. Linda is not worth the amount of the above note, but by agreement between said Mark Jarman & the Administrator, he is to take the above named Linda & to give up the Note to the Administrator...” Both VG. Very unusual and rare.
