Partly-printed Document Signed, 1p. folio, November 11, 1875, Floyd County, Georgia, being an agreement for H.J. Johnson to indenture William Ransom, on scarce "INDENTURES FOR FREED CHILDREN" form. It reads in part: "...William Ransom a freed child about two years of age, without any father or mother & chargeable to the county, should be BOUND to the undersigned for the term of nineteen years...in order that he might be taught the usual art of farming,...The undersigned undertakes and promises (in the sum of two hundred dollars) on his part, to clothe and maintain said Wm Ransom in a decent and respectable manner, and to cause said Wm Ransom to be taught to Read and Write the English Language and the usual Rules of Arithmetic..." This imprint was designed to be used only during the post-war 1860's as it has a printed date off "186_". Very nice and rare in this late date.
