Senate Bill S.101, "A Bill to Prohibit Discrimination in Employment because of Race, Creed, Color, National Origin, or Ancestry. Washington, 1945. 15p., 7-1/2" x 11," very good. Another unsuccessful "equal rights" bill sponsored by Senators Chavez, Downey, Wagner, Murray, Capper, Langer, and Aiken. Senator Dennis Chavez (1888-1962), was a tireless champion for tolerance, human rights, civil rights and racial equality. From 1945 to 1948, he tried unsuccessfully to pass the Fair Employment Practices Bill, the precursor to the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Chavez was quoted, "We are "Americans" when we go to war, and when we return, we are "Mexicans".
