A complete issue of the New York Herald, October 3, 1851, 8pp., disbound, VG. From the front page, “The Fugitive Slave Riot at Syracuse,” runs eight inches and tells the story of rescuing fugitive slave Jerry (Henry). In small part, “A plank was then used as a battering ram and an entrance forced .. Resistance was made by the officers ... A carriage was in readiness near Britnalls Hotel, into which he was hurried, and which bore him out of town ... There was no attempt to recapture Jerry ...”
