War-date Confederate regimental history manuscript, 2p. quarto, and reads in part: “…Capt. O.M. Doyle’s Company was organized on the 19th of Oct. 1861. Names of officers OM Doyle Capt., S.T. Dendy 1st Lieut. W.W. Stribling 2nd Lieut. James Johns 3d Lieut, N.H. Jenkins 1st Sergt. R.L. Grubbs 2nd Sergt. John Childer 3rd Sgt. S.N. Smithson 4th Sergt. T.S. Ramsay 5th Sergt. David Sanders 1st Corp. Thos Patterson 2nd Corp. W.H. Bilingsley 3 Corp. Robt Powell 4th Corp. This Company was mustered into the service of the Confederate States the 2nd day of Nov. 1861…moved to Camp Price on the 28th March on the evening of the same day was called to Edisto Island for a fight…A,B,D and F crossed the creek and went over to Edisto Island that night the balance of the Battalion was left as a reserve on Saturday morning the 29 about day light a fight commenced and a few rounds were fired when the Yankees run we killed 8 and took 19 prisoners and we had two more wounded one of them lost his arm the other wounded in the leg. We retreated in order and landed back to our camp about 12 o’clock the same day…” Written on lined salmon paperFine.
