Ward, AAA General”. ...plus, Pass #2) Union Control August 25, 1862 – “Office Provost Marshal” “Pickets will pass John Moling on the Pughtown & Apple Pie Ridge Road for one month.” “By order of E. H. Swinney, Lt. Col. 32nd Regt. O.V.I.” At the bottom of the pass John Moling signs attesting his loyalty to the Union. ... plus, Pass #3) “Head Quarters 2nd Division, 8th Army Corps”, “Office Provost Marshal, Winchester, Va. May 20th, 1863”, “Guards: Pass Paul P. Anderson home on Romney Road. Good for one day.” Signed by “F. K. Shawhan, Captain.” Shawhan was Captain of Company D 123rd Ohio Infantry. The following year he would be wounded at the battle of Opequan, Va.
