A good war-date manuscript military exemption request document, 1p. oblong 8vo., written by Thomas B. Millner (who signed with a mark), March 17, 1862, addressed to: "The board of Exemption of Bedford County, [Virginia]…I am permanently disqualified from discharging the duties of a soldier being afflicted with a deformed chest & was rejected from the volunteer service on that account. I am in Capt. Hatcher's hands, 91st Reg. Va. Mil[itia]…". Witnessed by R. D. Buford. His exemption must have been accepted since there is no record of any other further service in the Civil War date base. Near fine.
