A good Confederate soldier's war-date letter, 2pp. 4to., written by Pvt. Ambrose M. Hite, Co. H (Page Grays), 33rd Virginia Infantry [POW Spotsylvania May 12, 1864], "Camp Stonewall Brigade, Orange Co., Va., Dec. 13, 1863", in part: "…we are still at our old camp…below Orange C. H. We have a good chimney…you stated…that I ought not to a drawer the jacket and pants…I drew them because everything is getting so very high & is expected to get higher…all of my mess drawer a suit like that. The pants cost eight dollars & the jacket cost twelve dollars…I expect to need them if I live…I have to work on the breast works tomorrow…". VG
