Manuscript document, 2pp., 4to, "Hd Qrs Army Northern Va," Appomattox, Virginia, April 10, 1865, the familiar introductory sentence being: "After four years arduous service marked by unsurpassed courage and fortitude the Army of Northern Virginia has been compelled to yield to overwhelming numbers and resources." This copy was penned by Captain Dudley Digges Pendleton in his capacity as Assistant Adjutant General for the Artillery Corps under his uncle Brigadier General William A. Pendleton. The elder Pendleton had been Lee's artillery chief for much of the war. Folds, else fine condition.
