Fascinating grouping of Fort Delaware prisoner documents associated with Archibald Clarke who enlisted 6/1/1861 into the 6th Virginia Cavalry; was captured 6/9/1863; paroled 6/25/1863; was again captured 3/15/1864; and finally released from Fort Delaware 6/4/1865. The group includes; Clarke’s letter home, datelined Fort Delaware, May 22, 1864, 1pp., with the original cover “Prisoner’s Letter, Inspected,” both VG. ... plus, A very rare one page partially printed form, “Head Quarters, Fort Delaware, Del., June 4th, 1865” releasing Clarke and providing him transportaion to Point of Rocks, Maryland, with the original cover; and finally a one page, partially printed form, “War Department, Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands,” September 27, 1865, instructing release of control of Clarke’s property.
