A full, bold signature is placed beneath the former Confederate president's portrait. Pasted to the back of the CDV's mount is the clipped address panel from the envelope in which the photograph was mailed to its recipient. The panel is addressed in Davis's hand to "T. S. Beckwith Jr / Petersburg / Va" and carries remnants of the original postage and a CDS dated 1887. A 20th century penciled note states "Thomas Stanley Beckwith -12th Virginia - and later transferred to Medical." Light soiling, very good condition.
