A good war-date Union soldier's letter, 2 1/4pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. Ezra Greene, Co. H, 2nd Rhode Island Vols., "Camp Sprague, [Washington], June 22, [1861]", in part: "…we arrived…at 4 o'clock. I met George and Charles before we broke ranks. They returned…from a forced march of forty miles in hot day…[we] had a fire onboard in one of the berths…reached N. Y. harbor…oranges thrown onboard in great numbers…in Harrisburg…the stars and stripes float from every flagstaff…reached Baltimore…the people friendly. Trouble was anticipated and we prepared with 10 rounds of cartridges…cupeling broke and delayed us one half hour…the boys are now pitching tents in a grove…the marines and battery have just arrived…".
