War-date Union soldier's letter, 3pp. 8vo., on patriotic stationery, written by Pvt. William Wallace Ashley, Co. D, 32nd Ohio, Camp Dennison, Sept. 21, 1862, in part: "…we left Mansfield last Thursday and came to Columbus. They put us into a hog pen. We staid there one night and we came here to Cincinnati…we have to drill 4 hours…and stand guard…there is parts of four regiments in this row of barracks. There is [?] a of the 32 regt here. Their is not a whole company here out of 9 hundred men…at half past 5 we go on parade. We drawer our State bounty last Sunday. We drawer 27 dollars. Thair has been 7 taken to the hospital from our barracks…one was insane…". VG
