De Marsan, New York City, ca. 1862, reading, in part: "…the Monitor went smack up to the Merrimac…Jeff Davis, how are you? O1 our Monitor beat your Merrimac quite handy…Erricson he's around; in the world, there can't be found a people like the Yankee Doodle Dandy…on the eighth of March, the Merrimac…went rushing round, smashing everything she found…and Worden stopped her fun…to Jeff this ought to show: this this Monster is no go…with inventions of our Yankees' Doodle Dandy…". Nicely illustrated at the borders with a black banjo player, dancers and others Overall VG.
