A good war-date Union soldier's letter, 5 1/2pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. Edward W. Stacy [KIA Wilderness, Va., May 5, 1864], Co. G, 36th Mass. Vols., "near Fredericksburg, Va., Nov. 29, 1862", in part: "…our company had to go out on picket and I and several others did not have time to write…Ephraim Houghton [WIA Campbell's Station, Tenn., Nov. 16, 1863]belongs to the color guard…he did not come out with us and…'all is quiet along the Rappahannock'…the rebels have batteries planted on the other side of the river and we on this but we do not molest each other. The soldiers go down to the river and talk with each other. We expect to have…to force our way across the river before this time but we have laid here so long we do not know how much longer we may stay. They have just got the railroad from Acquia Creek to our camp repaired…". Also included is the original transmittal cover. VG
