Federal imprint, General Orders No. 147, 11pp., 4 ¾" x 7", Washington, D.C., September 30, 1862. A fascinating list of exchanges that had taken place at Aiken's Landing, Virginia on September 30, 1862. The first seven pages name the exchanged Union officers and their opposing Confederate equivalents. A scan of the names shows Confederate Lt. James B. Washington, C.S.A. being exchanged for Lt. James S. Blair of the 1st Maryland (US). Many will recall the famous photo of the captured Confederate Lieutenant Washington posing with his old school chum George Armstrong Custer. Subsequent pages name Federal officers only. Fine condition.
