An important graphic is presented in this complete issue of The New York Tribune, December 13, 1862, 8pp., disbound. From the front page is a displayable map, 9-1/2” x 6-1/2,” with headline “The New State of West Virginia.” West Virginia became a state following the Wheeling Conventions, in which 50 northwestern counties of Virginia whose landowners owned few to no slaves decided to break away from Virginia.
