A great pair of Union soldier's letters, totaling 8pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. David F. Ferris, Co. E, 44th New York (Ellsworth Avengers), reading, in part: "…[Albany Barracks, 9/28/62]…our company has been attached to the 44th Reg. and we form company E...there has got to be some pretty hard fighting yet before the Old stars and stripes, shall again flout triumphantly over the soil of traitors…[Pooleville, Md., 11/7/62, incomplete]…we are now in the woods about 1/2 a mile from Pooleville…our regiment was detailed to guard against the Rebels who…the day before passed through…we staid here until Wednesday night; then we went to Snicker's Gap…during the journey I had a good opportunity to learn something of the feelings and habits of the inhabitants…he had a high squeaking voice…".
