Autograph Note Signed "JH," one page, 8vo, n.p., April 24, 1863, to "Provost Marshall," reading, in part: "The bearer of this is an old soldier & desires a pass to bring 1700 of his vols to the army…". Written on the "Head-Quarters, Army of the Potomac" letterhead, this was likely penned at Frederick, Maryland and was certainly written while Major-General Hooker was preparing for his personal Waterloo at Chancellorsville. Stains, small splits, good condition. A 19th century octavo engraved portrait of Hooker is included.
