A great war-date Union military receipt, 2pp. oblong 8vo., on partly-printed "Office Chief Quartermaster, Department of the Gulf," stationery, New Orleans, June 18, 1863 drafted by Sister Mary Hide, in full: "Recd. from Capt. John W. McClure, Asst Quarter-Master, four hundred Dolls. for St. Vincent's Orphan Asylum." Quartermaster Captain John McClure issued the money in the name of future Union General Samuel B. Holabird (1826-1907) for the benefit of the St. Vincent's Orphanage and makes the document official by docketing the same on the verso. Near fine.
