A complete issue of the Frank Leslie’s Illustrated Newspaper, February 14, 1863, 16pp., disbound VG. From the front cover, a 1/2 page graphic engraving, “The Capture of Arkansas Post, Ark., General S.G. Burbridge, Accompanied by His Staff, Planting The Stars and Stripes of the Rebel Fort Hindman,” shows the storming of the fort, and four Confederate surrender “white flags.” Then, from the interior, a 1/2 page cennter spread, “The war in Arkansas, the investment of Fort Hindman, Arkansas Post, by the Union troops under Major General McClernand and its bombardment by the Union gunboats, commanded by Rear Admiral D. D. Porter, 1863 January 11.” Then, on the back page, another important 1/2 page Lincoln political cartoon, “Lincoln’s Dream; Or, There’s A Good Time Coming.” In the dream, Lincoln is holding the ax while members past and present come to the chopping block.He has decapitated Ambrose Burnside, George B. McClellan and Irvin McDowell. Waiting to be decapitated are members of the Lincoln Cabinet - William H. Seward, Gideon Welles, Edwin M. Stanton and General Henry Halleck.
