War-date letter signed "Joseph Hooker," one page, 4to, "Head Quarters 20th Corps Near Pine Hill, Geo.," June 13, 1864, to Brigadier General Whipple, n.p., reading in full: "I respectfully report for the information of the Major General Commanding, that I have moved one Brigade of Gen' Geary's Division to the right of the 4th Corps, and put it in position on the prolongation of Gen'l Coward's line. I have done this with a view of crossing and establishing my line on the opposite side of the Creek as soon as the depth of water in the Creek and swamp will permit. The enclosed plot (not present) shows the present positions." This letter refers to maneuvering that preceded the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain on June 27th. Included is a period engraving of Hooker. Fine condition.
