MILLER, Andrew Jackson (1806-1856) Member of Georgia state house of representatives, 1836; member of Georgia state senate, 1838-56; state court judge in Georgia. Miller County, Ga. is named for him. Autograph Letter Signed, “AJ Miller” 2p. quarto, Augusta, Georgia, Ocotber 15, 1851, with cover addressed to Col. John B. Miller in Sumterville, South Carolina, and reads in part: “...I expect to leave home in a short time for Milledgville having been reelected to the Senate without opposition. Our Legislature will meet on the 1st Monday in November, and will stand 39 Union Senators to 8 Disunionists and about 105 Union Reps to 30 Disunion. Cobb’s majority for Governor is about 18,000 over McDonald. So you see Georgia goes strong for the preservation of the Union as it is; while she insists on the adherance, by the North, to the adjustment made by the last Congress. I do sincerely hope that your State will be content to remain in the Union...” VG.
