A good war-date Union soldier's letter 3pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. Frank Ashley, Co. H, 64th Ohio, Chattanooga, Tenn., April 8, 1864, in part: "…we came here about noon today was ten days on the road [and] leave for Loudon in 2 or 3 days some 80 miles distance…the report is that there was a fighting at Dalton today but have not heard the particulars…the health of the Regt is very good had a few cases of the measles and mumps but it is with the recruits as yet…".
