H, 64th Ohio, "camp in the woods near Kingston, Ga., Sunday May 21, 1864," in part: "…my health is good also of the rest…all [are] in fine spirits but have lost heavily from our regt near 100 men killed and wounded but things look prosperous here. The army has drove the gray backs over 60 miles and at present are resting but will leave soon and then look for some stiring nuse…it was reported that the mail was stopped at Nashville but do not know as it is so…we are traveling through a nice country but it is soon devastated…the cars come up to our front lines…nothing [is] lacking to hinder a favorable campaign. It is thought by most that this will end the war and [I] hope it will…". VG
