A nice war-date Union soldier's letter 3pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. Frank Ashley, Co. H, 64th Ohio, "Camp of the 64 O. V. I. Nine miles from Atlanta, Ga., July 16, 1864," , in part: "…I hope you had a good time the 4th of July…in the day time we were shooting at rebs and at night…had one of our old Battle flags stuck up and then had orations and speeches and songs…[if] some of the Northern folks heard them it would have done them good. They were to the point and spoke plainly also [they] had commissary whiskey which…you know makes people patriotic. I was as bad…but I came off very well…". VG
